The Milwaukee Brewers pushed the Tampa Bay Rays to the edge of elimination, taking Game 3 by a 10-1 score to seize a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven World Series. Milwaukee banged out 16 hits at Tropicana Field while holding Tampa Bay to three, and the Rays' lone run scored in the ninth inning with the game already decided.
The Brewers have now won seven straight games across the National League Championship Series and the World Series. Milwaukee can run that streak to eight with a Game 4 victory, a mark the franchise has never reached in a single postseason.
Jackson Chourio drove the offense. The 22-year-old opened the game with a line drive single, added singles in his second and third plate appearances, and doubled during an eight-run fifth inning. He finished with four hits, two runs scored and one RBI through five innings. Tampa Bay managed one hit and no runs over the first eight innings.
"Yeah, I think that you could say this is one of my better games," Chourio said afterward. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base."
Chourio's four-hit performance made him the youngest player to record four hits in a World Series game since Joe Garagiola did it in 1946. Through three games, he is batting .571 with eight hits in 14 at-bats, two home runs in the postseason and three stolen bases in the series.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy compared Chourio's work habits to those of Kobe Bryant. "Nobody's surprised that Jack Jack's doing this. Nobody's surprised," Murphy said. "He's coming into his own. Nobody's shocked. He's just really, really good." Murphy also noted Chourio's throw that retired a Tampa Bay baserunner at home in Game 2.
Chourio played 127 games this season, an injury-shortened schedule, and still produced 4.9 WAR. He has posted 20 home runs and 20 steals in each of three seasons. Milwaukee is committed to him through 2031, with two club options that could extend the deal through 2033.
The Rays have not scored since a four-run first inning in Game 2, a rally Milwaukee answered in a 5-4 win. Game 4 is next in St. Petersburg.
