Saquon Barkley returned to the Philadelphia Eagles lineup on Monday night and finished with 62 rushing yards and a touchdown in a 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The running back played a total of nine offensive snaps, touching the ball on each one. He rushed for 62 yards on seven attempts and caught two passes for 9 yards.

Barkley was listed as questionable for the game following a two-week absence caused by a hamstring injury. He stated that his hamstring felt "great" during the contest. However, he also reported a back issue that developed during the first quarter. He tweaked his back on a 29-yard run and said the discomfort increased as the game progressed. His final snap occurred in the third quarter.

Barkley is the first NFL starter in the past 20 seasons to play at least nine offensive snaps in a single game and record a touch on all of them. He managed his physical condition throughout the contest by spending time in the medical tent. He also performed stretching exercises on the bench with trainers. After scoring an 8-yard touchdown on the first offensive possession, he immediately moved to an exercise bike on the sideline.

Coach Nick Sirianni explained that the medical staff determined the player was ready to play. "Do they feel ready to go? Do the doctors and trainers feel like he's ready to go? And we felt like that was the case today," Sirianni said. The coach noted that Barkley wanted to play every down but was slowed to protect his health. "He's tough as heck," Sirianni said. "He wanted to be out there for his teammates, probably had to slow him up."

Barkley said he did not expect the back issue to sideline him in future games. He deferred to the training staff for a final determination on his status. "I truly love this game, and I feel like if you're able to go, sometimes you've got to push your body to the limit," he said. He acknowledged that his body was not responding as desired but expressed frustration at not being able to perform at his usual level for the team.

The Eagles faced additional challenges in the backfield during the game. Will Shipley, Tank Bigsby, and Carson Steele are currently on injured reserve with foot, abdomen, and shoulder injuries, respectively. Dameon Pierce exited in the fourth quarter due to an undisclosed injury. Elijah Mitchell, who was activated from the practice squad for the matchup, handled the remaining rushing duties for the team.
