Three Moldovan ministers accompanied Prime Minister Vasile Tofan to the Ukrainian capital on Monday, October 26. The delegation includes Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi, and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. Their presence signals a focus on immediate logistical and security matters alongside diplomatic talks.
The Moldovan government stated that the prime ministers will discuss bilateral relations, trade, regional security, and the path toward the European Union. Tofan is scheduled to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Parliament Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk. Both leaders will also attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum to address investment opportunities.
The trip follows earlier contacts between the two nations. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to review winter preparations and sector challenges. On October 12, Tofan said he was considering buying natural gas from Ukraine to meet domestic needs. He identified that topic as a priority for this current visit.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu added that her country is prepared to accept a new wave of refugees from Ukraine. She cited the severe humanitarian situation as the reason for this readiness. The upcoming meetings aim to formalize these economic and security commitments before the winter season begins.
